Hi, I’m Julian Bohn, a German jazz pianist turned pop music producer based in the Netherlands. I aim to craft music that transcends genres, resonates with authenticity, and exudes warmth. Over the years, on stage and in the studio, I’ve had the privilege of working with artists like electro-pop act FRÉ, songwriter Shishani, XILLAN, and singer/entertainer Sven Ratzke, among others. Seeing these names, I count myself lucky to not only work with such talented musicians but also with people who use their music to stand up for causes they believe in. In that line, beyond creating music, I’m deeply committed to using my music for causes I care about as well. In 2021, I co-founded Music Declares Emergency NL, an organization advocating for climate action within the music industry.
I’m also a regular performer in BOYS WON’T BE BOYS, a Dutch theater production that shares real stories about masculinities and gender equality—topics I’ve become deeply invested in. For me, music has always been the main outlet to express my thoughts and emotions in the most natural way. It’s where I learned to share my most sensitive side, in a world where men are often discouraged from sharing their feelings. This connection to music, and its ability to open up conversations and create space for vulnerability, is something I try to bring to every performance and collaboration.
In 2023, my master’s thesis at the Conservatory of Amsterdam explored how rethinking masculinity can create safer, more inclusive working environments in the music industry. This research has led to guest lectures and panels, including at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
In the last couple of years, I’ve performed in concert halls and clubs across the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Finland, Italy, France, Portugal, and the United States. My work has been featured on international radio stations like BBC Radio, NPO Radio 2, NPO Radio 1, and NPO Radio 5. I’ve also given workshops and participated in panel discussions at ESNS, the University of Ulster, the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Scheepvaartmuseum Amsterdam, and the Herman Brood Academy.
